This Labor Day weekend tradition celebrates jazz’s rich history and brings together jazz-enthusiasts from all across southeastern Michigan, and beyond, for a celebration of music and community. "We are proud to be teaming up with WEMU to provide shuttles to the beloved Detroit Jazz Festival,” said Golden Limousine President & CEO Sean Duval. “Supporting this great community event by providing a hassle-free transportation option for those in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti communities is very important to us as a company. Molly Motherwell, General Manager of WEMU shares that sentiment. "We began this program in 2010 and I only wish we'd thought of it sooner. Hundreds of WEMU listeners and jazz fans have taken advantage of the shuttle service over the years; it's convenient, affordable, and easy.  So many have told us that they always wanted to go to the Detroit Jazz Festival but didn't feel familiar enough with Detroit to drive down and find parking. They love this service and so do we.  It's another way we can serve our community, it contributes to the green footprint of the Festival, and it's fun to share space with fellow jazz lovers.

WEMU is a founding partner of the Detroit Jazz Festival, the largest free, outdoor jazz festival in North America. Establishing the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti shuttle service is just another great way WEMU has contributed to this iconic event in downtown Detroit."

The Festival was formed in 1980 by Robert McCabe and the Detroit Renaissance group, in an effort to bring more visitors to the city and to provide all segments of the population with world-class entertainment. And that mission continues today. With over 60 performances throughout the Festival, the lineup offers something for everyone, including jazz legends, rising stars, legacy, and homecoming artists.

This year, the festival features its first Cuban Artist in Residence, Chucho Valdés. As Chris Collins, president and artistic director of the festival explained, “Chucho … brings with him not only that Afro-Cuban background in music, but of course, a lifetime of jazz in the United States and in Europe, and so many interesting combinations of artists from different genres within the jazz and Afro-Cuban communities.” Other festival headliners include the Bill Frisell Trio, Dianne Reeves, Nubya Garcia, Julian Lage, and The Soul Rebels.

“We hope that offering shuttles to the Festival will make it more convenient to attend, which will encourage more people to do so. Taking the shuttle eliminates the hassle of driving yourself and parking. Plus our user-friendly shuttle reservation portal makes it easy to register online. We thank our loyal friends for returning and look forward to all the new faces this year," said Sean Duval.

The Golden Detroit Jazz Festival Shuttles will be operating on Saturday, September 3, Sunday, September 4, and Monday, September 5, departing from Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, and the EMU George Gervin GameAbove Center (formerly the Convocation Center), in Ypsilanti.

The return shuttle from Detroit will depart from Huntington Place (formerly known as Cobo Center).

Because of the partnership with WEMU, the cost is $20.00 per round trip per day, in advance, and $25.00 per round trip after September 1.
