Which is why we’re excited to partner with one of Michigan basketball’s brightest young stars, Trey McKenney. Trey’s drive, discipline, and team-first mentality make him a natural fit for the Golden family.
A Rising Star in Michigan Basketball
Before arriving in Ann Arbor, Trey built an impressive high school career at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, establishing himself as one of the top players in the country. In 2025, he was named the 45th recipient of the prestigious Hal Schram Mr. Basketball Award, recognizing him as the top high school player in the state of Michigan.
A consensus five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, Trey averaged 22.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists during his senior season while leading St. Mary’s to multiple Catholic League championships and a Division 1 State Championship. His ability to dominate on both ends of the floor has made him one of the most exciting young talents to watch in college basketball.
That momentum carried directly into his freshman season at Michigan, where Trey became an important part of the Wolverines’ 2026 National Championship team.
As a freshman, Trey played in all 40 games and helped lead Michigan to a historic 37–3 record, an outright Big Ten regular-season title, and the program’s second national championship. Trey averaged 9.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, and shot 46.2 percent from the field while connecting on 39.1 percent of his three-point attempts, leading Michigan in three-pointers made. He recorded 26 double-digit scoring performances, including a season-high 21 points in his collegiate debut, and earned All-Big Ten Freshman Team honors for his standout first year.

Since stepping onto campus, he has impressed coaches with his commitment to improving, transforming his game and body while embracing the culture and expectations of Michigan basketball.

As a Flint native, Trey understands the importance of community and representing something bigger than himself. Coming from a family deeply connected to leadership and service, Trey carries that legacy with pride. His grandfather, Woodrow Stanley, served as Flint’s first African-American mayor, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy and community impact.
Trey’s journey reflects not just athletic excellence but the importance of giving back, staying grounded, and inspiring the next generation of young athletes across Michigan.

When asked about his dream vacation, Trey said Martha’s Vineyard is at the top of his list, a place to relax and recharge. And for a fun fact? His favorite movie is American Gangster, a reflection of his appreciation for grit, ambition, and determination.
