Golden Limousine International’s Motorcoach Apprenticeship Program Paves the Road for Michigan’s Next Generation of Drivers
Golden Limousine International has officially launched a Department of Labor-approved Motorcoach Apprenticeship Program, designed to train and certify Michigan’s next generation of professional motorcoach operators. This innovative, competency-based training plan offers CDL holders a clear pathway to become fully certified motorcoach operators, advancing their skills and careers through hands-on learning and mentorship.
Unlike traditional time-based apprenticeships, Golden’s program is structured around skill mastery and progression. Apprentices advance once they demonstrate proficiency, ensuring each participant is fully prepared to meet the high standards of safety, professionalism, and client care needed to become a certified motorcoach operator at Golden Limousine International or elsewhere.
“Motorcoach operators are skilled tradespeople, and as a luxury brand, we must have a training culture. This apprenticeship creates that standard,” said Golden HR Specialist Peter Jonik.
Building Skills and Confidence on the Road
The apprenticeship was developed to address a growing shortage of qualified motorcoach drivers across Michigan. While many drivers hold CDL licenses, few have the specialized training or confidence required to operate luxury motorcoaches valued at more than $750,000. Golden’s apprenticeship fills that gap with a structured, supportive learning experience that includes:
- 40 hours of classroom instruction covering regulations, safety, and customer service
- 20 hours of job shadowing with an experienced operator
- 60 hours of supervised drive time in a full-size motorcoach
- MCI Academy coursework, leading to a Master Motorcoach Operator Certification
Each apprentice is paired with a dedicated mentor, a senior or master motorcoach operator, who provides ongoing guidance and tracks progress throughout the program. Upon completion, graduates receive both U.S. Department of Labor certification and a Master Motorcoach Operator certificate from MCI Academy.
Paid Training and Career Advancement
Golden Limousine International’s apprenticeship program provides paid, hands-on experience from day one. Apprentices start at approximately $15.25 per hour plus gratuity, with total earnings ranging from $27–$37 per hour. As competencies are met, pay increases to $21 per hour, and ultimately to $23 per hour for master-level operators.
Graduates can expect annual earnings between $75,000 and $100,000, reflecting their advanced skill level and commitment to service excellence.
Eligibility and Program Access
To apply, candidates must hold a CDL-B license with a passenger endorsement. There is no employment contract requirement, allowing graduates to explore opportunities freely after completing the program. However, our goal is to foster long-term career growth and retention within Golden Limousine International.
